Tom Mechler has resigned as chairman of the Texas Republican Party. In a resignation letter, Mechler said the rigors of the job resulted in his departure.
“The time commitment, financial commitment, stress and overwhelming responsibility takes its toll,” he wrote. “After a lot of prayer and reflection, I’ve decided that it is time for me to focus on my family.”
Party officials posted the following on the Texas GOP website:
“Effective this Saturday, May 20, 2017, Chairman Tom Mechler will be resigning from the Republican Party of Texas for personal reasons,” according to a statement posted on the party’s website. “The State Republican Executive Committee will hold an election at our upcoming quarterly meeting on June 3rd in Austin to find an interim Chairman to fulfill the remainder of Chairman Mechler’s term.”
